MIDWAY, Ky. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team held Midway to just 24 points on 27 percent shooting in the second half to defeat the Eagles 73-64.
Four Grenadiers scored in double figures, led by
Trent Hinkle's 16 points with eight rebounds and six assists.
Ethan Haddaway had 12 points and 13 rebounds,
Nathaniel Hoffman had 12 points and
Isaac Strunk added 10 points off the bench.
"Our guys battled together and found a way to grind out a tough road win against a good team," head coach
Wiley Brown said.
A three-pointer by Amari Wales gave Midway a 25-18 lead with eight minutes to play in the first half, after a close opening 12 minutes.
Isaac Strunk answered with a three moments later to cut the lead to one and
Jordan Treat connected from long distance on the next possession to put IU Southeast in front.
Tim Fuller hit a three with 40 seconds left in the half to put the Eagles up by five and they led 40-35 at halftime.
Isaac Strunk had all 10 of his points in the first half on 4-of-4 shooting.
In the second half, both teams had leads of five points but could pull away. With the score tied at 53,
Trent Hinkle scored and
Nathaniel Hoffman followed with a three-pointer. The Eagles came right back and cut the lead to one.
With IU Southeast leading 63-61 with five minutes to play,
Ethan Haddaway scored and then got a block defensively.
The Grenadiers did not score on that possession but Haddaway scored again two possessions later to extend the lead to 67-62.
After a pair of missed free-throws by Midway,
Camden Pfeister hit a three to put the lead out of reach with two minutes to play70-62.
IU Southeast held Midway to 8-of-30 shooting in the second half to pull out the win.
The Grenadiers host St. Mary of the Woods Tuesday at 6 p.m.
