WESTFIELD, Ind. - The IU Southeast baseball team split games against the University of Northwestern Ohio Saturday, winning the first game 11-4 then falling in the late game 6-2. The Grenadiers move into Sunday's doubleheader against UNOH 3-5 on the season.
In game one, IU Southeast overpowered the Racers with a hot offense, collecting 12 hits in the 11-4 victory. In the first inning,
Trevor Goodwin scored
Coulter Hamilton and
Kasen Parks with a double to left field. The Racers answered back in the top of the second when Dylan Mroz singled to left field, scoring Eric Brown, bringing the score to 2-1.
In the bottom of the second inning, the Grenadiers continued to grow the lead when
Gabe Yonto singled to the right side scoring
Kannon Stull. The Grenadiers then went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the third inning when Stull singled to score
Alex Schuler and
Caden Lockwood.
Joel Johnson then went on to steal home, bringing the score to 6-1.
The Racers then closed the gap with a triple to center field by Eric Brown and a single to center field by Nolan Hull, bringing the score to 6-4 after the top of the fourth inning.
The Grenadiers then closed out the game scoring five more runs in the fourth and fifth innings with a double by
Trevor Goodwin to drive in
Coulter Hamilton and a bases-clearing triple by
Caden Lockwood to score
Trevor Goodwin,
Coulter Hamilton and
Gabe Yonto. The final run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth with a double from
Konnor Scheidt to score Lockwood, bringing the final score of the first game to 11-4.
The IU Southeast bullpen dominated the first game after a shaky start with a combined thirteen strikeouts and seven hits allowed by
Aiden Darlage and
Kemper Whisman. Whisman closed out the game with two scoreless innings to keep the Racers to four runs.
Trevor Goodwin had two hits and drove in three and Lockwood also drove in three. Kanon Stull finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI and Hamilton and
Matt Santana each had two hits.
In the second game, the Grenadiers struggled to continue their offensive momentum with a total of four hits in the 6-2 loss.
The Racers took the early lead and remained the sole scoring team until the fourth inning.
Kasen Parks put the Grenadiers on the board when he scored after a single to right field by
Coulter Hamilton, bringing the score to 3-1.
UNOH continued their scoring streak in the fifth inning scoring three more runs before
Konnor Scheidt homered for the second time this season to score the last run of the game, bringing the final score of the game to 6-2.

The top of the Grenadier lineup (Parks, Yonto and Hamilton) had three of the Grenadiers' four hits in the contest.
The Grenadiers will play the UNOH Racers again Sunday, February 15 at noon and 2:30 p.m. ET.
