WESTFIELD, Ind. - The IU Southeast baseball team finished out the weekend with two big wins against the University of Northwestern Ohio 12-1 and 13-3 on Sunday.
In game one, the Grenadiers got the early lead in the bottom of the first inning when
Gabe Yonto and
Kasen Parks scored after an error by the Racers.
Coulter Hamilton followed after an RBI to third base by
Kemper Whisman. The Grenadiers proceeded to score two more runs before the
end of the inning when
Alex Schuler doubled to center field, scoring
Konnor Scheidt and
Kannon Stull, bringing the score to 5-0 in the bottom of the first.
The Grenadiers continued their scoring streak when
Coulter Hamilton scored on the throw after a single by
Matt Santana through the left side.
In the top of the third, the Racers scored their only run of the game when Cesar Grau grounded out to score Jake Watson, bringing the score to 6-1.
The Grenadiers continued their scoring streak in the bottom of the third when
Joel Johnson scored with bases loaded after a hit by pitch.
In the fifth inning,
Coulter Hamilton homered for the third time this season, bringing the score to 9-1.
In the sixth inning of the game, the Grenadiers scored the final runs of the game when
Gabe Yonto,
Coulter Hamilton, and
Matt Santana all singled to score
Alex Schuler,
Joel Johnson, and
Gabe Yonto, bringing the final score of game one to 12-1.
In game two, the Grenadiers continued their offensive momentum with the first run of the game after
Kasen Parks scored after stealing third and an error by UNOH.
The Racers answered back in the top of the third inning when Fabian Romero doubled to right field to score Eric Brown and Jake Watson, taking a 2-1 lead, the first of the day for the Racers.
The Racers did not hold the lead long before the Grenadiers took it back in the bottom of the third, starting with an RBI groundout by
Kannon Stull to score
Gabe Yonto. With bases loaded,
Coulter Hamilton scored on a bases-loaded walk by
Chance Bentley, followed by a bases clearing triple by
Joel Johnson to score
Kevin Moore,
Konnor Scheidt, and
Grant Shepherd and bring the score to 6-2 by the end of the third inning.
The next few innings went scoreless, then at the top of the sixth inning, Brennan Green singled to center field to score Fabian Romero, scoring the Racers' final run of the game, bringing the score to 6-3.
The Grenadiers finished out the game with a huge sixth inning when Kason Parks doubled to right field to score
Joel Johnson, followed by a single by
Coulter Hamilton to score Kason Parks.
Kevin Moore had the biggest swing of the game when he homered for the first time this season to score
Coulter Hamilton and bring the score to 10-3.
To end the game,
Joel Johnson hit his second bases clearing triple, his third total for the game, to score
Alex Schuler,
Grant Shepherd, and
Konnor Scheidt, resulting in the final score of 13-3.
Brendan Whalen pitched five innings, giving up four hits, resulting in one run, striking out seven batters.
Jake Gothrup pitched four innings in the second game with nine strikeouts, followed by
Travis Kellems who pitched two innings with no hits and one strikeout.
The Grenadiers will be back in action next weekend at Faulkner University.
