NEW ALBANY, Ind . –
Sofia Guy hit two home runs and
Hallie Foley and
Emma Davis shut down the IU South Bend offense for much of Friday's doubleheader as IU Southeast defeated IU South Bend 4-3 and 8-0.
In game one, a two-run home run to left by Guy opened the scoring in the bottom of the first.
The Titans cut the lead in half in the top of the second when Peyton Norman singled and came around to score on a triple to left by Cassi Reams.
The Titans took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on a two-out rally. Starter
Hallie Foley allowed a lead-off single to Norman but got a flyout and strikeout.
She struck out Grace Swangin but a passed ball allowed her to reach and continue the inning. A single by Mikayla La Bounty loaded the bases and chased Foley.
Emma Davis came on in relief and got Savannah Hamilton to pop out to short to end the threat.
In the bottom of the fifth
McKenzie Walters drew a lead-off walk and scored on a home run to left by Guy to put IU Southeast back in front.
In the sixth the Titans threatened with runners at first and second with two outs, but a flyout to center ended the inning.
Emma Davis retired the side in order in the seventh to secure the win. She worked three and two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out a pair.
Sofia Guy finished 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Kaitlyn Leister had two hits and
McKenzie Walters drew three walks and scored twice.
In game two, Lizzie Leitgabel reached base on an error and moved to third on Walters's double in the bottom of the first. Consecutive sacrifice flies by
Chloee Shewmaker and Guy drove in a pair.
The Titans had runners at the corners with one out in the third but Davis got back-to-back popouts to end the inning.
The Grenadiers blew the game open with a four-run fourth inning.
Sofia Guy singled and Leister followed with a walk.
Ava Allen drove in Guy with a single to left.
Raycee Stallings knocked in a pair of runs when she reached on an error and she came around to score on a wild pitch.
Emma Davis retired the side in order in the fifth and a Shewmaker single and Guy walk put the runners at first and second in the bottom of the inning.
A groundout by Leister moved both runners into scoring position and a double to left by Winzeler ended the game, driving in two.
Emma Davis worked five scoreless innings, she allowed four hits while striking out one.
Alaina Winzeler and Raycee Stalling each drove in two in the win.
IU Southeast heads to IU South Bend on Wednesday.
