MIDWAY, Ky. - IU Southeast men's tennis was defeated 7-0 by Midway in their River States Conference opener Friday afternoon.
In the doubles matches, Midway's Ricardo Stirosta and Mudiwa Munyimani won 6-4 over Brennan Cooper and Trey Gutgsell. The Eagles secured the doubles point after Ferran Clapes and Manuel Mirabal defeated Elijah Brosmer and DJ Hall 6-3. The doubles match ended with Shimpei Yazuka and Aleksey Granitsa won 6-2 over Paxton Evitts and Jacob Campbell.
Gutgsell was defeated 0-6, 0-6 by Stirosta in the opening doubles match, then the Eagles took a 3-0 match lead after Clapes defeated Evitts 6-1, 6-1. Midway would secure the match after Munyimani won 6-4, 6-2 over Brosmer. Granitsa defeated Hall, Yazuka defeated Cooper, and Mirabal defeated Grayson Squires and Midway won the match 7-0.
Men's tennis dips to 3-5 (0-1 RSC) following Friday's loss to the Eagles. The Grenadiers will be back in action on Saturday, March 28th for a 1:00 p.m. home match against Shawnee State.
