GRAYSON, Ky. - IU Southeast softball split a road doubleheader at KCU Saturday afternoon. 

The Grenadiers will be back in action Tuesday in Fort Wayne, Ind., for a 1:00 p.m. road doubleheader against Indiana Tech.  

Game 1: KCU 8, IU Southeast 7 (9 innings) 

There were a lot of late-game fireworks in game one, and they started in the fifth inning. The Grenadiers led 3-2 heading into their half of the fifth and quickly extended their lead. Grace Stapleton and Savannah Gaither both crossed home plate after Lillian Mackey doubled to center to make it 5-2.  

KCU erased IU Southeast's lead in the next frame. KCU's Alyssa Curtis tripled to right to cut the lead to 5-4 then Kylie Mathes tied it with a single to center. IU Southeast retook the lead in the sixth after a sac fly from Sofia Guy. Gaither made it 7-5 with an RBI single.  

The Knights would take advantage of an IU Southeast fielding error in the bottom of the seventh and tied the game late to send it to extra innings. The Grenadiers stranded four runners in the eighth and ninth innings, and then KCU's Rebecca Engler won in the ninth with a walk-off single.  

Game 2: IU Southeast 11, KCU 3 

Kaitlyn Leister opened the scoring with a two-out single to right, then Stapleton and Mackey hit back-to-back doubles to make it 4-0. The Knights got one run back in the bottom of the third, only to see the Grenadiers plate two in the next frame.  

Josie Lemmons and McKenzie Walters took advantage of some errant pitches by the Knights, with both scoring on wild pitches. The Grenadiers would take advantage of more mistakes made by KCU in the sixth.  

Lemmons led off the inning by reaching base via an error, then quickly got into scoring position. Guy tripled, scoring Lemmons. A single by Gaither would score Guy to make it 8-3 in favor of IU Southeast, then a single by Stapleton later made it 9-3. IU Southeast added two more in the seventh and took game two 11-3.
