Big third inning powers IU Southeast past Lindsey Wilson

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - An eight-run third inning powered IU Southeast to an 11-1 win over the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders at the Koetter Sports Baseball Complex Tuesday afternoon.

Alex Schuler opened the scoring in the second inning with a solo home run over the center field wall, then the Grenadiers blew the game open in the third. Joel Johnson led off the third with a double down the left field line, then scored after a three-bagger by Coulter Hamilton.

Trevor Goodwin made it 3-0 after an RBI single to right. Goodwin advanced to second after a wild pitch, then scored after Bryson Arnette singled to center. IU Southeast loaded the bases after Chance Bentley wore a fastball, and Schuler drew a walk.

Arnette would score after a groundout by Bryce Elder, then a Blue Raider error on the next play led to another run scoring. Leading 6-0 with Schuler on third, Kasen Parks reached base after an error by LWU to make it 7-0. Parks would score on a wild pitch, and Gabe Yonto would score after Johnson grounded out. After three innings, IU Southeast led 9-0.

IU Southeast added another run in the fifth after Konnor Scheidt recorded a pinch-hit RBI single to center. The Blue Raiders would score one in the top of the seventh via a sacrifice fly to make it 10-1. Leading by nine, the Grenadiers had an opportunity to end it in the bottom of the seventh.

Hamilton got the rally started with a single to right, then advanced to third after Scheidt reached via error. With one out and runners on the corners, Arnette recorded a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Hamilton and securing an 11-1 victory for the Grenadiers.

On the mound, Kevin Moore improved to 4-0 after 5.0 innings of scoreless work, allowing just two hits and striking out nine. IU Southeast's pitching staff collectively allowed one run on four hits and 12 strikeouts.

With Tuesday's win, Grenadiers are 4-0 against teams from the Mid-South Conference and 23-10 overall. Coach Vincent Tornincasa's team will be back in action Thursday for a 12:00 p.m. home doubleheader against IU Columbus.
