IU Southeast splits doubleheader with Brescia

OWENSBORO, Ky. - IU Southeast baseball split a doubleheader against the Brescia Bearcats on Saturday afternoon.

The Grenadiers are 28-13 overall and 16-5 in conference play following Saturday's split with the Bearcats. Next up for Coach Vincent Tornincasa's team is a trip to Columbia, Ky., on Tuesday for a 3:00 p.m. game against Lindsey Wilson.

Game 1: Brescia 11, IU Southeast 8

Trailing 7-2 in the eighth, the Grenadiers offense went to work. Trevor Goodwin hit a two-run homer, his second home run of the game, to cut the Bearcats' lead to 7-4. Gabe Yonto cut the lead to one with a two RBI single, before Kasen Parks hit an RBI single to tie the game at 7-7. Kasen Parks scored shortly after, when Joel Johnson singled to left.

Brescia made IU Southeast pay for making a fielding error. The Bearcats scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth, three of which were unearned. The Grenadiers were gifted three free passes in the top of the ninth but were unable to get anyone home and the Bearcats won the game and clinched a series victory.

Game 2: IU Southeast 15, Brescia 1

The Grenadiers jumped on the Bearcats early in game two, plating four in the second. Yonto, Parks, and Johnson all batted at least one RBI each in the second. IU Southeast kept it going in the third, highlighted by a grand slam by Yonto, his second grand slam this week. Kannon Stull and Kevin Moore also batted in runs in the third.

IU Southeast stretched their lead to 14-1 in the fourth after a three-run home run by Kasen Parks. Stull capped off the scoring in the sixth after he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Coulter Hamilton.

Weston Harvey picked up another win on the mound. Harvey pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one run on six hits and nine strikeouts.
