OWENSBORO, Ky. - IU Southeast women's tennis earned a 4-3 win over Brescia Wednesday afternoon.
Maci Vaughn and Eva Ellis opened the doubles matches with a 6-3 win over Aisha Merchant Brescia's Destiny Okinawae. Reece Smith and Elena Hamby secured the doubles team point after defeating Navaeh Yates and Sofia Guevara 6-1.
Brescia's Jada Flakes opened the singles matches with a 6-0, 6-1 win over IU Southeast's Libby Banet. Vaughn fell 2-6, 3-6 to Okinawae. The Bearcats took a 3-1 team lead after Merchant won 6-1, 6-1 over Ellis.
Kate Halbig fell 1-6 in set one to Layla Flakes but then came back 6-1 in set two. Halbig secured a team point with a 6-1 win in set three. Hamby tied the match at 3-3 after winning 6-1, 6-2 win over Guevara. With the match tied at 3-3, Anellah Trujillo secured the match victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Yates.
The Grenadiers improved to 11-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play with Wednesday's win over the Bearcats. Next up for IU Southeast is a trip to IU Kokomo for a 10:00 a.m. match against the Cougars.
