MIDWAY, Ky. - IU Southeast baseball stretched their win streak to four after sweeping a road doubleheader against Midway on Friday afternoon.
The Grenadiers clinched the series over the Eagles and are 31-13 (18-5 RSC) following Friday's victories. Game three between IU Southeast and Midway will be on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
Game 1: IU Southeast 14, Midway 4
After scoring just one run in innings one through seven, the Grenadiers' offense exploded for ten runs in the eighth. Bryson Arnette hit a two-run double to tie the game at 3-3, then scored after a single by Coulter Hamilton. Alex Schuler and Chance Bentley hit RBI singles to make it 7-3, before Trevor Goodwin blew the game open with a grand slam.
The Eagles got one back in the bottom of the eighth, but that one run was quickly nullified in the top of the ninth. Schuler hit a two-run home run, then Kasen Parks hit a solo home run to make it 14-4. Schuler, Parks, Hamilton, and Goodwin all had multiple hits in game one.
Weston Harvey got the start on the mound and went 6.0 innings, allowing one run on eight hits and three strikeouts. Aiden Darlage got the win on the mound, pitching 1.0 inning of scoreless relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on one hit. Darlage is now 6-0 on the year.
Game 2: IU Southeast 8, Midway 7
The Grenadiers' offense picked up where it left off, plating four in the opening frame. Joel Johnson scored the first run, then Caden Lockwood made it 4-0 with a two-out, three-run homer to left. Midway got one back in the bottom of the first.
Gabe Yonto extended the Grenadier lead to 6-1 after hitting one to the gap in right center, then scored after Goodwin hit an RBI single. The Eagles would make it interesting by scoring two in the fourth, one in the fifth, and another in the sixth. Schuler provided IU Southeast with an insurance run with a single to left to make it 8-5.
The Eagles made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh, plating two runs and loading the bases shortly after. IU Southeast was able to hold off the late push by Midway, with Alston Whitworth recording the game-winning strikeout to secure the win, the sweep, and the series victory for IU Southeast.
