Grenadiers fall to Georgetown

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - A late surge in the ninth inning by the Georgetown Tigers negated a five-run comeback by the IU Southeast Grenadiers.

IU Southeast, who faced a 7-2 deficit in the fifth inning, began to chip away at Georgetown's lead. Trevor Goodwin got the comeback started with a two-run double to make it 7-4 in the fifth. The Grenadiers took the lead back two innings later.

With two outs and Joel Johnson on third, Gabe Yonto made it 7-5 with an infield single. Goodwin walked in the next at-bat, then scored after a three-run by Bryson Arnette. After Arnette gave IU Southeast the lead, Coulter Hamilton extended the lead with an inside the park home run.

Georgetown cut the Grenadiers' lead in half with an RBI single in top of the eighth and then held the Grenadiers scoreless in the bottom of the eighth. The Tigers hit a leadoff triple in the ninth, tied the game, then took the lead.

The Tigers kept the Grenadiers off the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth and won 10-9. IU Southeast finished the game with nine runs on twelve hits, led by Coulter Hamilton with three. Kannon Stull, Yonto, Goodwin, and Arnette all finished with multiple hits.

The Grenadiers finish the season 5-3 against teams in the Mid-South Conference teams this season and 6-3 in midweek games. IU Southeast is 32-14 following Tuesday's loss to Georgetown. The Grenadiers will be back in action this weekend for a three-game series against the IU Kokomo Cougars.

IU Southeast is 19-5 in conference play heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The Grenadiers lead Oakland City by one game and need two wins to clinch the River States Conference Regular Season Championship.
