NEW ALBANY, Ind. - IU Southeast's five-game win streak came to an end after a 7-3 defeat at the hands of the Campbellsville Tigers Tuesday afternoon at the Koetter Sports Baseball Complex.
IU Southeast struggled to get the offense going and struggled in run support. IU Southeast finished the game with only five hits and left eleven base runners stranded. The struggles began early when IU Southeast scored just one run despite being given four free bases and having the bases loaded.
Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Grenadiers got some runs back when Kannon Stull hit an RBI double, then scored one at-bat later after a wild pitch to make it 4-3. Stull's run would be the last run the Grenadiers would score.
Campbellsville put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth, scoring three runs to stretch their lead to 7-3. Joel Johnson led off the bottom of the ninth with a single but was caught in a double play after Chance Bentley hit an infield line drive.
Tuesday's loss also continued the trend of road warriors in the Campbellsville vs. IU Southeast series. Since 2006, the Grenadiers and the Tigers have played 39 times, and the road team has a record of 25-14. Tuesday's result continued that trend, with the road team having now won nine of the last ten meetings.
IU Southeast is 26-11 following Tuesday afternoon's loss to Campbellsville. The Grenadiers will hit the field again Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. game against (RV) Marian at the Koetter Sports Baseball Complex.
