Grenadiers advance in tournament after win over No. 1 Oakland City

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. - No. 4 IU Southeast took down No. 1 Oakland City 6-2 in game three of the 2026 River States Conference Tournament.

After plating thirteen runs vs. Brescia Thursday, the Grenadiers' offense picked up where they left off. Josie Lemmons, fresh off a First Team All-Conference honor, led off the game with a triple, then scored after McKenzie Walters grounded out 6-3.

Sofia Guy and Savannah Gaither hit back-to-back singles, then Grace Stapleton drew a walk to load the bases. Then, Kaitlyn Leister made it 3-0 with a double to left center. Lillian Mackey capped off the frame with a sacrifice fly to right to make it 4-0.

The Mighty Oaks got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth after an RBI single. IU Southeast countered with two in the top of the sixth. Gaither and Stapleton hit back-to-back singles, then Leister sent a fastball to the gap in left center to make it 6-1. OCU scored one in the bottom of the seventh and the Grenadiers won 6-2.

Emma Davis, who was also First Team All-Conference, earned another victory in the circle after pitching 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on eleven hits and a strikeout. Liv Morris checked into the game in the seventh and finished off the Mighty Oaks to secure the win. Davis and Morris combined to strand nine OCU baserunners.

The Grenadiers remain in the winner's side of the bracket after defeating the top-seeded Mighty Oaks. Fridy's win over OCU was IU Southeast's first win of the season against the Mighty Oaks.

Next up for the Grenadiers is a 4:00 p.m. game against No. 3 Rio Grande. The Grenadiers went 1-3 vs. Rio Grande in four very close games during the regular season.
