Grenadiers run-rule SSU; advance to RSC Tournament Championship

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – IU Southeast baseball advanced to the tournament championship game after run-ruling No. 4 Shawnee State 11-1 in game seven of the 2026 RSC Tournament.

Trevor Goodwin drew a two-out walk in the bottom of the first, then scored after Bryson Arnette hit a two-run home run to right. One frame later, Shawnee State loaded the bases, but Luca Sandrella and the Grenadiers' defense minimized and limited the Bears to just one run.

Gabe Yonto drew a walk to lead off the bottom of the fourth. Kevin Moore doubled to the gap in right center. Yonto and Moore scored one at-bat later after a single to left by Kemper Whisman. Whisman advanced to second, then moved to third after a sacrifice bunt by Kasen Parks. Chance Bentley increased the Grenadier lead to 5-1 with a sacrifice fly, scoring Whisman.

IU Southeast added another run in the sixth. With two outs and the bases empty, Gabe Yonto made it 6-1 in favor of the Grenadiers after a solo home run to right field. The Grenadiers would tack on four more runs in the sixth.

Parks got the inning start with a leadoff single, Chance Bentley drew a walk, then Joel Johnson loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch. Two at-bats later, Goodwin gave the Grenadiers a seven-run lead after a two-RBI single to center.

Arnette walked to reload the bases, then Yonto was hit by a pitch to walk in a run. Moore made it 10-1 after a sacrifice flyout to center. The game ended one inning later when Johson singled to left, scoring Parks to cap off the 11-1 run-ruling.

Sandrella earned the win on the mound after 6.0 good innings of work, allowing one run on three hits and five strikeouts. Joey Merrick checked into the game in the seventh and kept the Bears off the scoreboard.

IU Southeast's opponent in the championship is to be determined. No. 2 Oakland City plays No. 5 Brescia in game eight, with the winner playing No. 4 Shawnee State in game nine. IU Southeast will play the winner of game nine in the finals Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
