NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The No. 21-ranked IU Southeast women's basketball team defeated Asbury University 56-49 to stretch its winning streak to eight games on Saturday afternoon
The Grenadiers (19-5, 8-0 KIAC) came out of the gate slowly on offense. They shot 21 percent in the first half and the starting five shot 4 of 27. But the Grenadiers' defense kept them in the game. At halftime, IU Southeast trailed 27-21.
The second half was a different story as the starters got on track. The Grenadiers shot 48 percent in the second half with strong contribution from Ashmere Woods (Louisville, Ky.), Whitney Duncan (Louisville, Ky.) and Alden Krausse (Floyds Knobs, Ind.). Woods had 13 points and eight rebounds and Duncan had 15 points four rebounds and four assists. Krausse scored eight points and had 11 rebounds in the victory.
Lakin Griffith scored 16 points to lead Asbury (10-16, 2-7 KIAC).
The Grenadiers head to Brescia on Thursday before returning home next Saturday, Feb. 12 to host a doubleheader against St. Louis College of Pharmacy at 2 p.m. The men's game follows at 4 p.m. Ticket prices for the event are $7 for adult general admission and free of charge for children 10 years old or younger. IU Southeast Faculty, Staff and Students will be admitted FREE of charge with UCARD.
