Grenadiers Defeat Kentucky Christian 79-67 On Senior Day

NEW ALBANY, Ind. - The IU Southeast women's basketball capped off its regular season on Saturday afternoon with a 79-67 win over Kentucky Christian.

It was a close game throughout. The Grenadiers kept KCU in the game with sloppy passing as they committed 12 turnovers in the first half. The Lady Knights led 32-31 at the half.

The Grenadiers protected the ball in the second half and ran the offense more efficiently. Ashmere Woods scored 15 of her 23 points in the second half to help the Grenadiers maintain a comfortable lead. Senior Megan Murphy had her customary double-double on Senior Day, scoring 15 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Heather Wheat had 12 points and seven assists and Megan Cureton added 11 points off the bench.

The Grenadiers' other senior, Tia Wineinger, had a solid game defensively. She scored five points, but had nine rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Grenadiers shot 40 percent in the second half and 39 percent for the game. Kentucky Christian (24-5) shot 45 percent from the field in the game.

Tanya Bowens led the Lady Knights with 17 points.

IU Southeast hosts St. Louis College of Pharmacy in the opening round of the KIAC Tournament next Saturday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m.
