BEREA, Ky. - The IU Southeast women's basketball team joined the
men's team in their respective KIAC finals with an 81-57 win over Alice Lloyd.
The Grenadiers and Lady Eagles traded baskets for much of the
first half, before the Grenadiers' Megan
Cureton provided a spark off the bench for IU Southeast. She scored 15 points in the first half and
hit three of four threes.
The Grenadiers were able slow down the Alice Lloyd offense
late in the half and jumped out to a 40-30 lead at the half.
In the second half, the Grenadiers used swarming defense and
quick hands to force 10 turnovers and tough shots. The Lady Eagles shot 39 percent from the field
in the game.
Cureton led the Grenadiers with 18 points while Tia
Wineinger had a huge game with 15 points and nine rebounds.
IU Southeast shot 46 percent from the field and the turning
point was their perimeter offense. The
Grenadiers shot 44 percent from three-point range. Megan Cureton and Wineinger led the barrage
with four and three three-pointers, respectively.
KIAC Player of the Year Ariel Nickell led all scorers with
21 points and added 10 rebounds.
The Grenadiers will face Asbury in the championship game at
5:30 p.m. tomorrow. The Grenadiers have
lost both meetings to Asbury this season.
