NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The No. 14-ranked IU Southeast men's basketball team needed double overtime to move their winning streak to 11 games but they edged Asbury 97-92 on Saturday.
Cameron Mitchell led the Grenadiers with 24 points, Kevin Mitchell had 22 and Matt Trimnell had 20 in the win.
IU Southeast (17-3, 7-0 KIAC) led by two with 13 seconds left in the game, before Adam Delph, who led all scorers with 28 points, was fouled by Jake Simpson. Delph hit both shots, and Terrence Billups could not hit a game-winning three-pointer on the Grenadiers' final possession.
Asbury (11-9, 2-3 KIAC) scored the first four points of overtime, before IU Southeast scored the next six. Kevin Mitchell took over in overtime. He scored 10 points in the first overtime to keep IU Southeast in the game.
C.J. Penny had a chance to win the game for Asbury after scoring off a rebound and being fouled by Terrence Billups. He missed the free throw and the Grenadiers and Eagles went to a second overtime tied at 88.
Billups carried the scoring load in the second overtime. He opened the scoring with a three-pointer and then gave the Grenadiers a lead on a jumper with a minute to play.
Kevin Mitchell and Trimnell hit free-throws down the stretch to secure the win.
Asbury was led by Delph's 28 and CJ Penny's 22 points.
There were 10 ties and 10 lead changes in the game.
IU Southeast hosts Berea in the second game of a doubleheader Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
