Wheat And Woods Key Comeback Win Over Asbury

Wilmore, Ky. – A second half surge by IU Southeast, and strong performances by Heather Wheat, Ashmere Woods and Tionna Peters led to a 92-85 comeback win at Asbury Saturday.

The Grenadiers (15-12, 7-7 KIAC) struggled in the first half to get defensive rebounds which led to 18 second-chance points for the Eagles. Trenia Barbee had 20 first-half points for Asbury.

IU Southeast trailed 45-35 at the break.

The Grenadiers came out and rebounded in the second half. Asbury only had 15 rebounds in the second half and teams tied with 46 rebounds between them.

IU Southeast cut into the lead early, Peters and Wheat each scored and cut the lead to single digits. Wheat scored 20 of her 29 points in the final frame. She was able to penetrate and Asbury's defense could not stay in front, which led to foul trouble for the Eagles.

IU Southeast shot 21 of 25 from the free throw in the second half to help them get back into the game and eventually win it. Wheat was 15-17 from the line. She added eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Ashmere Woods finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

The Grenadiers shot 26-31 (84 percent) from the line in the game.

Barbee added another 18 points to finish with 38, but she committed a key turnover down the stretch which helped IU Southeast secure the win.

IU Southeast hosts Brescia Tuesday in a Senior Night doubleheader with the men's team. The women tip off at 5:30 with the men following at 7:30 p.m.
