NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team survived a scare on Tuesday night in the opening round of the KIAC Tournament at IU Southeast.
The Grenadiers and Pioneers played a tough contest that had 12 ties and 19 lead changes.
IU Southeast led by 11 points midway through the first half but Point Park tied the game at 42 at halftime with a three-quarter court shot at the first-half buzzer.
The second half was a nail-biter as both teams could not generate leads larger than four points.
With the score tied at 94 with a minute left to play, Vernon Payne hit a jumper to give IU Southeast the lead. A Gabe McNeal drive and wild shot missed and Cameron Mitchell came down with the rebound. He made one of two free throws and then iced the game on the next possession by making two more free throws.
Mitchell finished with 22 points, Aishon White added 21, and Jake Simpson finished with 20 points and five assists.
Kegan Clark had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Gabe McNeal had a huge game scoring 30 points for Point Park.
IU Southeast will face No. 5 seed Berea on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Alice Lloyd College.
