NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The Grenadiers played their second overtime game in as many days but this time escaped with a 77-70 victory over Oakland City on Sunday.
Mary Dye had a huge game scoring 19 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, both game-highs. Heather Wheat had 17 points, six steals and three assists, Megan Cureton added 16 points and Emily Clayton had 11.
The Grenadiers (17-9) had trouble getting their offense going in the first half and shot 34 percent (11-of-32) from the field.
IU Southeast trailed 32-30 at halftime.
The Grenadiers went on a 20-10 run midway through the second half to take a 61-51 lead, but a 13-2 run by the Lady Oaks put the Grenadiers behind 64-63 with 3:13 to play.
After an Emily Clayton jumper, Dye gave IU Southeast a 68-66 after hitting one of two free throws. A basket from Rashawnda Shamell tied the game at 68 and sent the Grenadiers to another overtime.
The Grenadiers dominated play defensively in overtime, outscoring Oakland City 9-2.
The three-point shot would not fall throughout the day as the Grenadiers made just four threes and shot 18 percent from behind-the-arc.
The Grenadiers host Brescia Tuesday at 6 p.m.
