IU Southeast's Dominant Weekend Ends With 15-9 Win

LEBANON, Tenn. – The IU Southeast baseball team capitalized on six Cumberland University errors and had 13 hits en route to a 15-9 win over the NAIA's top-ranked team on Sunday to secure a three-game sweep.

The Grenadiers (4-2) jumped on the Bulldogs early, scoring three runs in each of the first two innings. In the first, Marcus Howard led off the game with a double to right center. Josh Beams reached on an infield single and Trent Simpson grounded out to second to score Howard. Logan Coughlin continued his stellar weekend with a double to score Beams. Coughlin would later score after a wild pickoff attempt.

In the second inning, Alex Dapkus reached on an error by the shortstop and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then Dayton Rausch singled to score Dapkus. Then Beams reached on a throwing error and Simpson reached on fielder's choice which scored Rausch. A RBI single Tyler Adams plated Marcus Howard.

The Grenadiers led 10-2 after four innings, but a seven run fifth inning for the Bulldogs put Cumberland University right back in the game. The Grenadiers responded with a five-run sixth to put the game out of reach.

The big blow came from Josh Beams who hit a two-run double down the left field line that brought in Rausch and Dapkus.

Brian Nacke got his second win of the year. He worked two and a third scoreless innings, surrendering a hit while walking three and striking out two.

Game two of the doubleheader was suspended due to darkness after four innings of play. It will be resumed in New Albany later this season with a date to be announced.
