NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team led by as many as 12 in the second half, but needed overtime to put away IU Kokomo 63-62 on Thursday.
Annie Thomas played all 45 minutes of the game. She had 25 points, including 16 in the first half, and five steals. Mary Dye had 13 points and 12 rebounds and Jocelyn Mousty had 10 points and 10 rebounds in the win.
The Grenadiers (7-8, 4-2 KIAC) led 40-28 with 7:30 left in the third quarter before the Cougars went on a 27-11 run to take a 55-51 lead with 3:30 to play in regulation.
Jocelyn Mousty got a putback to fall to make it a two-point deficit and Mary Dye tied the game off of an offensive rebound and a putback.
The Grenadiers led 57-55 with eight seconds left and the Grenadiers seemed to have secured the win after Deja Felder turned to ball over. But Amanda Hunter stole the ball from Mousty and was able to pass it to Dejianna Butler who hit the game-tying jumper at the buzzer.
In overtime, IU Southeast led 63-57 after Michaela Harris completed a three-point play off of a nice pass from Dye. Felder hit a three to make it 63-60, but the Cougars could not get off a game-tying shot.
The Grenadiers Lela Crawford had 15 points for the Cougars.
IU Southeast capitalized on 18 Cougar turnovers, which led to 17 Grenadier points. The Grenadiers held the Cougars to just seven points off turnovers.
IU Southeast hosts another doubleheader on Saturday vs Brescia. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. with the men's game following at 3 p.m.
