Jenna Shine Leads Grenadiers Over Trinity Christian

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – IU Southeast overcame 36 turnovers to defeat Trinity Christian 82-78 on Friday.

Freshman forward Jenna Shine led IU Southeast with 20 points, eight rebounds and eight steals.

IU Southeast (1-1) led 14-2 five minutes into the game. The IU Southeast starters had all scored three minutes into the game.

But the Grenadier turnovers kept Trinity Christian in the game. They battled back to tie the game at 30 in the second quarter.

The Trolls (3-1) scored 19 of their 34 first-half points off of 18 turnovers and trailed 40-34 at halftime.

Shine, a New Albany product, scored 14 of her 20 points in the second half on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.

The Grenadiers led by as many as 13 in the third quarter, but a 25-10 run by Trinity Christian gave the Trolls the lead 59-57 early in the fourth.

Ashley Johnson made it 64-61 IU Southeast with 7:30 left and then Shine hit a three on the next possession and then got a rebound and a putback to extend the lead.

IU Southeast was clinging to a 77-74 lead with 1:17 to play but Johnson extended the lead with two big free throws. She secured the win by making one of two free throws with three seconds left.

IU Southeast travels to Oakland City Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
