NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team held on for a 71-66 win over Midway to open conference play on Tuesday.
The Grenadiers (5-2, 1-0 RSC) led 36-34 at halftime and used a 15-5 run in the third quarter to pull away.
IU Southeast led by as many as 14 in the fourth quarter but turnovers and some bad shots got the Eagles right back in the game.
After an IU Southeast turnover, Midway cut the lead to 67-64 with 1:30 left in the game. Jasmine Johnson got a steal and layup to cut the lead to one.
Jocelyn Mousty, Ashley Johnson and Madi Woods hit key free throws down the stretch and IU Southeast got a couple of stops defensively to secure the win.
Annie Thomas led the Grenadiers with 16 points and seven assists, Johnson had 12 points and Woods added 10 points and six rebounds.
The Grenadiers held the Eagles to just 5-of-20 shooting from behind-the-arc which helped them hold Midway off late in the game.
IU Southeast travels to Brescia University Thursday for a 6 p.m. ET tipoff.
