Grenadiers' Hot Offense Sends IUS Past IU East 87-78

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Demetrius Stanton scored 27 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field as IU Southeast moved its winning streak to three games in a 87-78 win over IU East.

Three other Grenadiers scored in double-figures: Robert Sawyer had 13 points and 12 rebounds, Jacob Mills had 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind-the-arc and Joe Jackson had 10 points and three blocks.

The Grenadier offense was in control throughout, especially in the second half. IU Southeast shot 50 percent from the field (13-of-26) in the first half and a sizzling 57 percent (13-of-23) in the second half. They also went 6-of-10 from three-point range in the second half.

Mills hit all of his three-pointers in the second half to help extend the IU Southeast lead. The Grenadiers led 40-36 at halftime after leading by as many as 13.

The Grenadiers (9-16, 5-7 KIAC) led by as many as 15 in the second half but the lead was cut to 80-75 with 1:09 to play. Joe Jackson scored and then Kerry Smith hit two free throws to put the game out of reach.

IU Southeast held IU East to just 2-of-10 shooting from behind-the-arc in the second half.

The Grenadiers travel to Ohio Christian Friday at 8 p.m.
