Grenadiers Clipped By Eagles 98-97 In Overtime

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team saw their four-game winning streak snapped as Asbury edged the Grenadiers 98-97 in overtime on Thursday.

IU Southeast (11-10, 8-4 KIAC) trailed by three with five seconds to play but Annie Thomas banked in a game-tying three-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime tied at 87.

In overtime, led 96-94 after Jocelyn Mousty hit two free throws with 53 seconds remaining. Catie Fletcher was fouled on the ensuing position and hit both free throws. After Halea Petro was fouled, she hit one of two shots to make it a 97-96 game with 35 seconds left.

Kali Whiteside was bumped on a drive and she tied the game by hitting one of two free throws.

In the Grenadiers' final possession Josie Hockman was able to get to the basket but her layup just rimmed out and Fletcher was fouled by Baylee Krueger as she brought the ball up the court. Fletcher hit one of two to seal the win.

The Grenadiers (11-10, 8-4 KIAC) trailed by as many as 10 in the second quarter but used a 20-7 run to take a 34-31 lead at halftime.

Annie Thomas had 27 points to lead IU Southeast. Mary Dye had 25 points and 10 rebounds. Jocelyn Mousty had 16 points, all in the second half and overtime and Hockman had 11 points.

There were 16 ties and 10 lead changes in the game.

The Grenadiers travel to Brescia on Saturday at 2 p.m.
