NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A hot second half offensively helped IU Southeast defeat Oakland City 87-73 on Homecoming.
Five Grenadiers scored in double figures, led by Malerie Martin's 16 points and Madi Woods' 15 points. Annie Thomas had 14 points, Ashley Lyninger added 12 points and seven rebounds and Ashley Johnson had 11 points and seven rebounds.
IU Southeast led by as many as 14 points in the first half but Oakland City closed the half on a 13-5 run. IU Southeast led 41-35 at halftime.
Ashley Lyninger (nine points) and Annie Thomas (seven points) took over in the third quarter, scoring 16 of the team's 26 points in the quarter.
Malerie Martin hit two big three-pointers in the fourth quarter to keep the Lady Oaks from getting back into the game. She scored 12 of her 16 points in the second half.
IU Southeast shot 58 percent in the second half on 18-of-31 shooting from the field in the final 20 minutes. The Grenadiers also played better perimeter defense in the second half, holding Oakland City to 5-of-17 shooting from three-point range.
Behind the play of Malerie Martin and Madi Woods, the IU Southeast bench outscored Oakland City's 41-23.
The Grenadiers travel to Kentucky Christian Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest.
