NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team used an effective offensive performance in the paint to cruise to a 74-43 win over Brescia University on Thursday.
Ashley Lyninger had 12 points and six rebounds to lead the Grenadiers. Annie Thomas added 11 points and four steals.
IU Southeast (6-2, 2-0 RSC) closed the first quarter on a 12-2 run and led 20-10 after the first 10 minutes of play.
The Bearcats battled back and cut the lead to 39-32 two minutes into the second half but IU Southeast responded with a 16-3 run to end the third quarter and ice the game.
The Grenadiers were dominant in the paint, outscoring the Bearcats 40-14. The tough IU Southeast defense held Brescia to 16 second-half points and just six in the fourth quarter.
They also forced 19 turnovers and only turned the ball over nine times.
IU Southeast hosts St Mary-of-the-Woods Saturday at 1 p.m.
