Second Half Surge Sends IU Southeast Past Ohio Christian 66-53

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball used a huge second half to get past visiting Ohio Christian on Tuesday and, in the process, senior guard Annie Thomas surpassed 1,000 points at IU Southeast.

Annie Thomas had a game-high 25 points, Josie Hockman added 12 points and six rebounds and Ashley Johnson added 10 points in the win.

IU Southeast was able to withstand a three-point barrage from Ohio Christian in the first half as they scored their first 18 points on the contest on six three-point field goals.

The Grenadiers (12-8, 5-5 RSC) trailed 30-29 at halftime after a sluggish first half offensively. But in the third quarter, the offense began to click and the defense clamped down. The Grenadiers outscored the Trailblazers 26-10 in the third quarter and 37-23 in the second half.

Annie Thomas scored 18 of her 25 points in the second half and had 13 points in the third quarter alone. She hit a three-pointer in the third quarter to break the 1,000 point mark. She is the 26th Grenadier women's basketball player to record 1,000 points and accomplished the feat in less than three seasons.

IU Southeast forced 12 OCU turnovers in the second half and 21 in the game and scored 17 points off of turnovers.

The Grenadiers held the Trailblazers to just 32 percent shooting in the second half and 25 percent shooting from three-point range.

IU Southeast travels to IU East Saturday at 1 p.m.
