Grenadiers Defeat Spring Arbor 60-32 Friday

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team used stifling defense and strong second half offensively to defeat Spring Arbor (Mich.) 60-32 on Friday.

Kirstie Henn led the Grenadiers with 14 points and Baylee Krueger added 10 points and four rebounds.

IU Southeast (4-0) shut down the Spring Arbor offense throughout the contest, holding them to 19.6 (11-of-53) percent shooting from the field in the game.

The first half was a defensive struggle with both teams finding it difficult to get going offensively. The Grenadiers connected on just seven field goals but were able to take the lead at the free throw line outscoring the Cougars 6-1.

IU Southeast led 20-15 at halftime. Kirstie Henn and Baylee Krueger had half of the team's first half points for IU Southeast.

In the second half the Grenadier offense woke up. The Grenadiers opened the second half on a 10-0 run and outscored the Cougars 40-17 in the second half. After shooting 29 percent (7-of-24) from the field and going 0-of-8 from three-point range in the first half the IU Southeast offense shot 44 percent (14-of-32) in the final 20 minutes.

Rachel Nelson had nine points to lead Spring Arbor, who dropped to 2-4.

IU Southeast faces tournament host Huntington University Saturday at 3 p.m.
