NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Lauren Lambdin scored a career-high 24 points, all in the second half, but it was not enough as IU Southeast lost a 74-66 decision to the University of the Cumberlands Saturday.
Madi Woods had 15 points and Baylee Krueger had eight points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
The IU Southeast offense struggled to start the contest and they fell behind 21-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Patriots (11-3) opened the second quarter on a 17-6 run to take a 38-19 lead with two minutes to play in the half, but a quick 6-0 Grenadier run cut into the deficit as Cumberlands led 38-25 at the break.
In the second half, IU Southeast found its offensive stroke keyed by Lambdin and Madi Woods. The Grenadiers (7-4) used a quick 7-0 run on baskets from Lambdin, Kelsi Scott and two Kirstie Henn free throws to trail 38-32 with 7:33 to play in the third quarter. But the Patriots did not allow the Grenadiers to get closer and took a 55-47 lead to the fourth quarter.
A Jasmyne Stewart steal, layup and made free throw to complete the three-point play extended the Patriot lead to 69-53 before the Grenadiers cut the lead to 71-65 with under a minute to play.
A huge three by Madi Woods and a great drive by Lambdin gave the Grenadiers a shot but after fouling Callia Cropp to try and get the ball back she hit both free throws to put the game out of reach at 73-65.
IU Southeast shot 54 percent in the second half and hit 5-of-6 three-pointers to help get back in the contest but the deficit was too great to overcome.
