Dominant Second Half Sends Grenadiers Past Midway

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A 48-9 run to start the second half sent host IU Southeast past Midway University 96-53 on Tuesday.

The Grenadiers (7-4, 2-1 RSC) led 31-21 with 3:40 to play in the first half behind the play of Jamie Johnson, who had 14 first half points, and Lukas Burkman who had seven points.

But Midway (6-4, 1-1 RSC) cut the lead to 34-31 on a Kwon Evans basket. IU Southeast closed the opening 20 minutes by scoring seven of the final eight points of the half and took a 41-32 lead to the break.

The floodgates opened for the IU Southeast offense in the second half. The Grenadiers outscored the Eagles 18-1 in the first 4:30 of the second half. Kerry Smith hit the only three-point field goal during the run to make it 57-33.

IU Southeast clamped down defensively in the second half as Midway made just seven field goals in the final 20 minutes, shooting 20 percent from the field.

Jamie Johnson had 21 points to lead IU Southeast. Lukas Burkman had 13 points and six rebounds and Jared Osborne had 10 points.

The Grenadiers travel to Brescia University Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET.
