NEW ALBANY, Ind. – IU Southeast trailed 67-56 with 4:50 to play in the game before Josie Hockman and Baylee Krueger keyed a comeback for the ages.
Hockman scored 10 of her 14 points in the fourth quarter and seniors Annie Thomas and Ashley Johnson also delivered on Senior Night.
Annie Thomas led the Grenadiers with 19 points and eight assists, Hockman had 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Johnson had 10 points and six rebounds in the win.
The game was close throughout before Midway pulled away midway through the fourth quarter. The Eagles (14-13, 8-9 RSC) went on an 11-0 run to take what appeared to be an insurmountable lead.
Hockman got the Grenadiers back in the game with jumpers on three-straight possession and Baylee Krueger completed a three-point play to cut the defect to 67-65 with two minutes to play.
After a steal by Krueger, Hockman tied it with another jumper in the paint and then hit another shot in the paint off of a nice feed from Aaliyah Bell to give the Grenadiers the lead 69-67 with 23 seconds left.
Annie Thomas came through with two clutch free throws to seal the win.
The IU Southeast offense clicked in the second half as the Grenadiers shot 47 percent from the field in were 6-of-12 from three-point range. The Grenadiers had two big three-point shots each from Ashley Johnson in the third quarter and Madi Woods to open the fourth quarter.
IU Southeast hosts Cincinnati Christian Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in a rescheduled game from the postponed Jan. 13 contest.
