NEW ALBANY, Ind. – A late comeback attempt by IU Southeast fell just short as Cincinnati Christan defeated the Grenadiers 58-56 on Saturday.
IU Southeast (8-10, 3-5 RSC) scored just 23 points in the opening 20 minutes of the contest and trailed 33-23 at halftime.
The Eagles (10-9, 6-2 RSC) led by as many as 17 points in the third quarter before a furious comeback by the Grenadiers cut the deficit to 56-51 with under two minutes to play. A 23-11 run got IU Southeast back in the contest.
After a Josie Hockman jumper cut the lead to five, a steal by Madi Woods and three-point play by Kirstie Henn cut the lead to 58-56 with 36 seconds left. IU Southeast got the defensive stop by the game-winner three-pointer by Madi Woods fell short.
Hockman had seven of her team-high 15 points in the fourth quarter to help IU Southeast get back in the game. Madi Woods, Henn and Kelsi Scott all added nine points for the Grenadiers.
The Grenadiers host Oakland City Monday at 7 p.m.
