Grenadiers Fall To IU East Saturday

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – IU East outscored the Grenadiers 35-15 in the fourth quarter to complete a comeback from 15 points down at the beginning of the period to defeat IU Southeast 76-71 Saturday.

Kelsi Scott had 20 points and eight rebounds to lead IU Southeast. Josie Hockman had 10 of her 14 points in the first half to help the Grenadiers jump out to a 20 point lead. Lauren Lambdin had 11 points and four assists.

The Grenadiers (12-11, 6-6 RSC) opened the game on a 17-6 run and held the Red Wolves in single-digits until the 1:18 mark of the opening period.

A Kelsi Scott field goal extended the IU Southeast lead to 38-18 with under a minute to play in the first half and the Grenadiers led 38-21 at the break.

IU East (10-14, 8-4 RSC) cut the lead to 47-40 in the third quarter but the Grenadiers took a 56-41 lead to the fourth after Baylee Krueger completed a three-point play.

The Red Wolves responded by shooting 12-of-20 in the final 10 minutes of play and hit three key three-pointers. IU Southeast kept the Red Wolves at bay until the six minute mark of the fourth quarter.

IU East closed the game on a 24-8 run. Libby Springmier had 11 points of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to key the comeback. Addie Brown had a game-high 21 points for IU East, including 13 in the second half. Brown, Springmier and Amanda Worland combined to score 38 of the team's 55 points in the second half.

The Grenadiers committed 11 second-half turnovers to IU East's 2.

IU Southeast travels to Alice Lloyd College Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
