NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast defense held Simmons College of Kentucky to just 19 first half points and an efficient offense helped the Grenadiers pull away en route to a 85-51 win on Homecoming.

IU Southeast never trailed, the game was never tied and every Grenadier scored in the contest.

Ariana Sandefur had a second-straight double-double, as she recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds. Hannah Coleman was the high scorer for the Grenadiers as she finished with 17 points, including 13 in the second half. Jacy Hughes had 13 points and Gabriella Read had 11 points and seven rebounds.

The Grenadiers (5-0) held the Falcons scoreless until the 2:30 minute mark of the first quarter, IU Southeast had jumped out to a 17-0 lead. IU Southeast led 21-4 after the opening 10 minutes.

The Grenadiers continued to apply pressure and shut down the Simmons attack on the perimeter to take a 45-19 lead at halftime. They held the Falcons to 0-for-11 shooting from three-point range in the first half. Ariana Sandefur had eight points and 10 rebounds in the first half and Gabriella Read led IU Southeast with nine first-half points.

The second half was more of the same as the Grenadiers continued to pull away after a sluggish start to the second half. Hannah Coleman was the offensive spark in the final 20 minutes as she was able to score down in the post and also hit mid-range jumpers.

IU Southeast forced 21 Simmons turnovers on the day and protected the ball offensively as they turned it over just eight times. They outscored Simmons 24-2 in points off turnovers and in the paint they held a 46-32 advantage.

Not surprisingly, the Grenadier bench was a huge story, outscoring Simmons 37-13 in the contest.

IU Southeast hosts an exhibition game vs Campbellsville-Harrodsburg Wednesday at 7 p.m.
