HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team outscored Spring Arbor 35-8 in the second half to defeat the Cougars 58-32 on Friday.
Both teams struggled offensively in the first half and the result was a 24-23 Spring Arbor lead at halftime. IU Southeast was just 9-of-31 from the field in the first half for 29 percent and were 3-of-12 from behind-the-arc. The Cougars (2-4) weren't much better shooting 30 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
The second half was a different story for the Grenadiers. IU Southeast shot 48 percent from the field in the second half and held the Cougars to 4-of-23 shooting from the field (17 percent).
Gabriella Read had nine of her 11 points in the final 20 minutes and Ariana Sandefur hit two key three-pointers in the second half to help IU Southeast pull away.
IU Southeast outscored Spring Arbor 24-2 in the third quarter. They forced 19 turnovers in the second half and scored 22 points off of the miscues. The Grenadiers also took high-percentage shots in the second half, outscoring Spring Arbor 20-2 in the paint in the second half.
IU Southeast takes on Huntington University Saturday at 3 p.m.
