Hot Start Sends IU Southeast Past Oakland City 84-51

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Every Grenadier scored and IU Southeast never trailed as IU Southeast cruised past Oakland City 84-51 on Tuesday.

Freshman Maddie Knight led IU Southeast with a season-high 15 points and six assists. Lauren Lambdin had 14 points, Natalie Fichter had 11 points and seven rebounds and Josie Woods had 10 points. Madi Woods had five steals to led the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast (7-1) jumped out to a 20-5 lead as Oakland City had trouble breaking the Grenadier press. The Grenadiers forced seven turnovers in the first quarter and held the Lady Oaks to 4-of-17 shooting from the field. IU Southeast outscored Oakland City 24-8 in the first quarter.

The Grenadiers continued to apply the pressure and forced 18 first-half turnover which led to 23 points. IU Southeast scored 20 of their 47 first-half points on the fast break.

The Grenadiers led 47-19 at halftime.

In the second half, Lauren Lambdin was the spark for the Grenadiers as she scored 12 of her 14 points in the final 20 minutes of play.

The Grenadiers forced 34 turnovers but were sloppy with the ball as well, committing 25. They were able to get high-percentage shot to fall, many were on the fast break, and shot 48 percent in the contest.

IU Southeast travels to Berea College Friday at 5:30 p.m.
