Grenadiers Roll Past the University of the Cumberlands 94-76

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – IU Southeast led by as many as 30 points and never trailed as the Grenadiers defeated the University of the Cumberlands 94-76 on Saturday.

David Burton had 23 points and seven rebounds to lead IU Southeast. Kereion Douglas also had 23 points, including 16 in the second half, Jocobi Hendricks had 19 points and Jared Osborne had 13 points, five assists and four rebounds.

The IU Southeast offense was difficult to stop throughout the contest and an opportunistic defense helped the Grenadiers jump out to a quick double-digit lead.

The Grenadiers (9-3) held the Patriots scoreless for the first 6:30 of the contest and opened up a 11-0 lead. The Patriots (8-4) cut the lead to 20-15 but back-to-back three-point field goals by Douglas and Burton put the lead at a comfortable distance again for the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast took advantage of lazy Cumberlands passes and forced 13 first-half turnovers and nine steals to keep a comfortable lead throughout the first half.

The Grenadiers led 46-32 at halftime. Jocobi Hendricks and David Burton each had 11 points and Jared Osborne added 10.

The Patriots would not get closer than an 11-point deficit in the second half. Though they were able to limit the turnovers to just five in the second half, they only connected on four three-pointers and IU Southeast hit eight to keep the lead in double-figures.

After Cumberlands cut the lead to 56-45 with more than 15 minutes to play, the Grenadiers outscored the Patriots 34-15 over the next 10 minutes to put the game away.

The Grenadiers shot 55 percent from the field in the contest and were 12-of-21 (57 percent) from behind-the-arc.

IU Southeast travels to Midway University Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
