RICHMOND, Ind. – A cold-shooting night from the perimeter doomed IU Southeast as they fell to No. 14 IU East 108-77 in the quarterfinals of the River States Conference Men's Basketball Championship.
Jamie Johnson had 24 points to lead IU Southeast in his final collegiate game. David Burton added 14 points and seven rebounds.
The Grenadiers (19-11) made just five three-pointers in the contest and shot 22 percent (5-of-23) from behind-the-arc. In contrast, IU East was 18-of-33 from three-point range in the contest.
IU Southeast trailed 25-21 halfway through the first half before IU East went on a 21-7 run to take a 46-28 lead. The Grenadiers would battle back and trail 50-43 at halftime as Jared Osborne hit a three-pointer with five seconds left in the half to keep the Grenadiers within reach.
Back-to-back field goals by Lukas Burkman and Jamie Johnson got IU Southeast within three but they would not get closer. IU East outscored the Grenadiers 58-34 in the second half to secure the win.
The Red Wolves (24-7) connected on 12 three-pointers in the second half and IU Southeast missed all ten which eliminated any chance of a comeback.
Brady Smith had 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting from three-point range to lead IU East. Keating Rombach and Kendall Rollins each added 14 points.
