Late Rally Sends WVU Tech Past IU Southeast 89-82

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Jocobi Hendricks had a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds but it was not enough as WVU Tech closed the game on a 15-4 run to pull out a 89-82 win on Thursday.

Jocobi Hendricks kept the Grenadiers in the contest in the first half as he scored 19 of his 28 points in the opening 20 minutes. Anthony Wales Jr. hit a jump shot at the buzzer to give IU Southeast a 42-41 lead at halftime. There were nine lead changes in the first half alone.

In the second half the Golden Bears opened the period on a 22-9 run to take a 61-53 lead with 13:52 to play.

The Grenadiers battled back to take a 69-68 lead when Kereion Douglas scored with just over eight minutes to play. A basket by Wales Jr. extended the lead to three.

IU Southeast would take a 79-74 lead after two Jared Osborne free throws with 3:25 to play but the Golden Bears would be sparked on their game-winning run by a three-pointer by Junior Arrey, who had 31 points, including 20 in the second half.

The WVU Tech bench outscored the Grenadiers 21-10 in the contest.

David Burton had 16 points and seven rebounds, Anthony Wales Jr. had 13 points and Jared Osborne added 11 points in the loss.

IU Southeast hosts the University of Rio Grande Saturday at 3 p.m.
