NEW ALBANY, Ind. – Five WVU Tech players scored in double-figures to lead the Golden Bears past IU Southeast 82-75 on Thursday.
The Golden Bears (12-6, 5-0 RSC) led by as many as 15 points in the first half and took a 46-33 lead to halftime behind a red-hot offense that shot 61 percent in the opening 20 minutes.
The Grenadiers (11-6, 3-2 RSC) battled back and cut the lead to 53-52 in the third quarter after using a 19-7 run to get back in the contest. IU Southeast outscored the Golden Bears 21-14 in the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Lauren Lambdin hit a three-pointer and Hannah Coleman hit a jumper to cut the lead to 62-59 early in the period. But the Golden Bears would answer and pushed the lead back to eight points with three minutes left in the contest.
Natalie Fichter hit three-pointer to cut the lead to 76-71 with 1:34 to play. After a defensive stop, Hannah Coleman hit two free throws to make it a one possession game.
But the Golden Bears were perfect at the free-throw line down-the-stretch to put the contest away. They were 6-for-6 in the final 22 seconds to secure the win. They shot 16-for-18 from the line in the contest.
Natalie Fichter had 19 points and eight rebounds and Hannah Coleman had 19 points and five rebounds to lead IU Southeast. ShanEttine Butler led WVU Tech with 18 points.
WVU Tech shot 53 percent from the field in the contest.
The Grenadiers host Rio Grande Saturday at 1 p.m
