RICHMOND, Ind. – Maddie Knight had a career-high 21 points but it was not enough as the Grenadiers dropped a 91-77 decision to IU East Tuesday.
Hannah Coleman had 16 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks and Emmy Ralph added 16 points.
The Grenadiers (13-9, 5-5 RSC) fell behind 10-2 before closing the first quarter on a 18-6 run to take a 20-16 lead to the second quarter.
The offense faltered in the second quarter as the Grenadiers were outscored 22-13. Emmy Ralph hit a jumper to extend the IU Southeast lead to 33-26 but IU East closed the half on a 12-0 run to take a 38-33 to halftime.
Maddie Knight and Emmy Ralph kept the Grenadiers in the contest in the first half as Knight (12) and Ralph (8) scored 20 of the Grenadiers' 33 points.
The third quarter belonged to Hannah Coleman as she had 10 points, six rebounds and two blocks in that period alone.
She helped spark the Grenadier offense which took at 54-51 lead to the fourth quarter.
Madi Woods drove for layup to extend the lead to five early in the fourth. After IU East took a 63-60 lead, Ralph, Josie Woods and Knight scored to give the Grenadiers a three-point lead.
Ariana Sandefur's drive and layup gave the Grenadiers a 70-65 lead with two minutes to play.
After Addie Brown scored to cut the lead to three, Megan Harlow hit a three to tie the game with 33 seconds left.
Maddie Knight answered with a three to give IU Southeast a 73-70 lead with 16 seconds left. MaKayla Blount scored on a layup to cut the lead to one. But the Grenadiers turned the ensuing possession over and Blount was fouled on the go-ahead shot. She hit one-of-two free throws to force overtime.
The overtime was dominant period for the Red Wolves. They outscored IU Southeast 18-4 and forced four IU Southeast turnovers in the final five minutes.
IU Southeast hosts Ohio Christian Saturday at 1 p.m.
