IU Southeast Clinches RSC West Title With 77-67 Win Over No. 14 IU Kokomo

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team rallied for a 77-67 win over No. 14 IU Kokomo to clinch the RSC West Division title on Tuesday.

Anthony Wales Jr and David Burton each had 17 points and Jaivaughn Jackson had 16 points off the bench for the Grenadiers.

IU Southeast (20-7, 13-3 RSC) fell behind 30-23 with five minutes left in the opening period but closed the half on a 17-5 run to take a 40-35 lead at halftime.

Jared Osborne sparked the run with a three-pointer and David Burton tied the game with a jumper followed by a layup by Wales,

But the Cougars roared back with a 18-5 run to take a 56-49 lead halfway through the second half.

After slowly chipping away at the deficit, Wales Jr. and Jocobi Hendricks connected on back-to-back three pointers to give the Grenadiers the lead that they would not relinquish.

Then David Burton got a steal and Wales laid it in to extend the lead. Another Burton three-point field goal put the game out of reach and the Grenadiers continued to force tough shots defensively.

The Grenadiers held the Cougars to 33 percent shooting in the second half and they were 5-of-15 from behind-the-arc.

In a well-played contest, the Grenadiers forced 13 turnovers and committed four while scoring 13 points off of the Cougar errors.

IU Southeast will return to action in the River States Conference Quarterfinals Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. Tournament information will be released this weekend following Saturday's action.
