Grenadiers Use Huge Second Quarter To Get Past Eagles 78-65

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – After a sluggish start, the IU Southeast women's basketball team outscored Alice Lloyd 24-7 in the second quarter to pull away to a 78-65 win on Tuesday which snapped a three-game losing streak.

IU Southeast (14-10, 6-6 RSC) scored the first 24 points of the second quarter to roar back from a 16-8 deficit after the first period of play. They held Alice Lloyd scoreless until the 4:14 mark of the period.

Josie Woods and Ariana Sandefur sparked the offensive outburst in the period. Sandefur hit two three-point attempts and had two steals. Josie Woods led all scorers with seven points in t the frame.

IU Southeast led 32-23 at halftime. The Grenadiers held Alice Lloyd to 20 percent shooting from the field in the first half.

The Eagles (10-13, 2-10 RSC) cut the IU Southeast led to six points midway through the third quarter but Sandefur hit two key three-pointers in the third to extend the lead. The Grenadiers took a 55-43 lead to the fourth quarter.

IU Southeast put the game away early in the fourth quarter by hitting three-straight three points field goal attempts to open the period. Madi Woods, Natalie Fichter and Josie Woods all connected on long-range attempts. The Grenadiers opened the fourth quarter on a 17-0 run to seal the victory.

Josie Woods led IU Southeast with 16 points off the bench. Ariana Sandefur added 14 points, six rebounds and three steals, Lauren Lambdin had 12 points and seven rebounds, Madi Woods had 11 points and Hannah Coleman had 12 points, 10 rebounds and foru blocks.

The Grenadiers forced 20 turnovers on the night which led to 29 points and the IU Southeast bench outscored Alice Lloyd's 37-11.

IU Southeast travels to Oakland City Thursday at 8 p.m.
