Grenadiers Fall To No. 23 IU East In RSC Semifinal

NEW ALBANY, Ind. – The IU Southeast men's basketball team fell 101-92 to IU East in the semifinals of the River States Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Saturday.

Jaivaughn Jackson had 25 points to lead IU Southeast. Anthony Wales Jr. had 24, Jocobi Hendricks added 19 and David Burton had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

The Grenadiers (21-9) jumped out to a 31-20 lead midway through the first half when David Burton hit a three-pointer. After IU East had cut the lead to seven, a driving layup by Jaivaughn Jackson extended the lead to 47-36 with 3:33 to play in the half. Jackson had 18 of his 25 points in the first half.

The Grenadiers led 54-44 at halftime after holding off a late charge by the Red Wolves.

IU Southeast started the second half with offense from Hendricks and Wales Jr. The Grenadiers extended their lead to as many as 13 points as IU Southeast took a 70-57 lead seven minutes into the second half.

Then the tide turned in favor of the Red Wolves, who moved to 22-10 on the season. IU East used a 27-6 run to take a 84-76 lead with under six minutes to play. The Grenadiers offense stalled and they turned the ball over nine times in the second half which led to 17 points. They outscored the Grenadiers 57-38 in the final 20 minutes of action.

Keating Rombach could not be stopped in the second half for the Red Wolves. He scored 27 of his game-high 32 points in the final 12 minutes of the second half on 9-of-14 shooting from the field and hit five three-pointers. Bishop Smith added 21 points, Garrett Silcott had 17 and Jehu Lafeuillee had 15 points in the win.

The Grenadiers will look to earn an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament when the bracket is revealed on March 4.
