Box Score NEW ALBANY, Ind. - Emmy Ralph had a career-high 31 points and nine rebounds to lead the Grenadiers to a 92-77 win over Roosevelt University on Saturday to open the 2021-22 season for IU Southeast.
Freshman Karly Sweeney had 16 points, four rebounds and three steals for the Grenadiers. Lauren Lambdin had 14 points and Alex Maher added 12 points for the Grenadiers.
IU Southeast (1-0) led 18-14 in the first quarter but Ralph closed the period by scoring the final six points for the Grenadiers to extend the lead to 24-18. Ralph finished with 11 points in the first quarter.
The Grenadiers used a 13-2 run in the second quarter to take a 39-27 lead with 1:43 to play in the half. Five different Grenadiers scored during the run and seven scored in the period. IU Southeast led 39-32 at halftime.
The Grenadier offense clicked in the third quarter as IU Southeast shot 59 percent from the field (10-of-17) and were 4-of-10 from three-point range. Lauren Lambdin scored 10 of her 14 points in the third quarter. IU Southeast led by as many as 19 in the period.
A furious Roosevelt comeback cut the deficit to 74-69 with 4:25 led in the fourth quarter after a three-pointer by Gabrielle Beggs connected.
IU Southeast responded by closing the game on a 18-3 run. A three-pointed by Ralph, a three-point play by Lambdin and a jumper by Sweeney provided the spark for the Grenadiers to close out the win.
The Grenadiers shot 47 percent from the field in the contest and held the Lakers to just 37 percent shooting.
