Box Score WILMORE, Ky. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team fell 80-61 to Asbury University on Tuesday.
Leah Miller led the Grenadiers in scoring with 15 points. Lauren Lambdin added 14 points, and Brynna Blackburn scored 10 points off the bench. Lettie Nice led the team with 11 rebounds.
IU Southeast (5-5, 2-1 RSC) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead, hitting their first two shots of the game. The teams traded baskets back and forth throughout the quarter. With the score tied 12-12, Asbury ended the quarter on a 6-1 run to take an 18-13 lead heading into the second quarter.
The Grenadiers opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run to take a 23-18 lead. Asbury would battle their way back, and the two teams struggled to maintain an advantage in the quarter. Asbury took a five-point lead of their own, but the Grenadiers answered, tying the game at 34-34. An Asbury three-pointer gave them a 39-37 lead over IU Southeast at halftime.
The third quarter is where Asbury pulled away. The Grenadiers went 3-22 from the field, getting outscored 21-9 in the quarter. Asbury ended the third quarter on a 9-0 run to take a 60-46 lead.
Asbury never let their lead fall below 11 in the fourth quarter, extending their lead to as many as 21 points. The Grenadiers tried to fight their way back early in the quarter, but Asbury thwarted every IU Southeast run. Asbury would go on to win 80-61.
The two teams shot similar percentages from the field, but Asbury pulled away by hitting nine more three pointers than IU Southeast. The Grenadiers hit just six of their 24 threes, while Asbury went 15-35 from deep. IU Southeast went 11-16 from the free throw line.
IU Southeast travels to St. Mary-of-the-Woods on Saturday.
