GRENADIERS GET PAST RACERS 67-60 IN OVERTIME

RICHMOND, Ind. – The IU Southeast women's basketball team trailed by as many as 10 points in the third quarter but railed to defeat the University of Northwestern Ohio 67-60 in overtime at the First Bank Richmond Classic on Saturday.

Hannah Corus had a huge game, scoring 19 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Karly Sweeney had 15 points, Lauren Lambdin had 12 points and Brynna Blackburn added 11 points for the Grenadiers.

The first quarter was close throughout the period. IU Southeast took an 11-7 lead on a Sweeney jumper but the score was tied at 16 at the end of the first quarter.

In the second, the Racers used an 11-5 run to take a 27-21 lead which they held for much of the rest of the half as the IU Southeast offense stalled, shooting 5-of-16 from the field in the quarter. Northwestern Ohio led 35-29 at halftime.

The Grenadier defense shut down UNOH in the second half, allowing nine points each in the third and fourth quarters.

IU Southeast trailed 41-31 with 6:39 left in the third quarter but held the Racers to just three points in the remainder of the period. IU Southeast trailed 44-39 after three periods of play. Two Blackburn three-pointers and a Sweeney jumper got the Grenadiers back into the game in the third quarter.

Hannah Corus scored half of the Grenadiers' 14 points in the fourth quarter to provide the offensive spark. The Grenadiers used a 14-4 run to take a 53-48 lead with just under 30 seconds to play.

Corus gave the Grenadiers the lead with pair of free-throws, then Blackburn connected ona three-pointer and Corus hit three more free throws to give the Grenadiers the five point advantage.

But Morgan Hughes cut the deficit to three with a pair of free throws and then hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 53 with 13 seconds to play.

Overtime was dominated by the Grenadiers. Leah Miller opened the scoring with two free throws and then Corus scored on a jumper. Lauren Lambdin would score on jumper after a pair of Sweeney free throws and two more Corus free throws extended the lead to 10.

The Grenadiers held the Racers to just 30 percent shooting from the field in the second half and overtime.

IU Southeast scored 21 points off of 26 UNOH turnovers and the Grenadiers had 13 steals to just three for the Racers.

The Grenadiers travel to Huntington University next weekend.
